Chiropractic Care Benefits Everyone!
Meet the Doctor! Dr. Ned Martello is a highly respected local medical professional, a Chiropractor who is at the top of his field; this highly skilled chiropractic professional has been helping the people of the Greater Baton Rouge area for nearly twenty five years. Dr. Martello is a proud and loving family man whose children are the only thing that can compete with his profession and desire to help others.

Growing up in a big Italian family has given Dr. Martello some very special training and insight into people, which complements and assists his interaction with his patients. Dr. Ned genuinely loves and cares deeply for others; a quality that should be a characteristic of all medical professionals. This special gift allows him to develop a high level of trust and confidence with his patients, and plays an important role in their recovery.

Dr. Ned knew he always wanted to work in the medical field and was planning to become an MD, but changed his mind after a series of circumstances caused him to rethink his career path.

As a college student Dr. Ned experienced a serious fall and injured his back shifting three vertebrae, money was tight and he was without health insurance so he turned to a cousin who was a chiropractor to ask for help. Dr. Martello admits, “I really didn’t know anything about chiropractors and was even a little intimidated by them but I needed my cousin’s help. He treated me and realigned my distorted back, miraculously the pain was gone and I could stand up straight again. I had experienced true healing first hand. It occurred to me that my cousin along with so many other chiropractors were really helping people and making a difference in the quality of their lives.

After some soul searching and additional research into the chiropractic profession I decide that this was the route that I wanted to take, I already knew that I wanted to work in the medical field and honestly after all these years I have never regretted my career choice for one second, I know that this is my life’s calling and I will continue contributing to our local community and its people through my practice. I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment when I can help someone who comes into my office suffering with unbearable pain. Over the years I have had people literally crawling or being assisted by a friend or family member because they couldn’t even walk or stand upright, after we diagnose the problem and straighten them out so to speak, many times they can leave the office on their own. Being able to live, as well as practice in Baton Rouge, allows me to increase my availability to those in need, while fulfilling my own need for a sense of community. I love what I do, and nothing is more satisfying to me than watching how chiropractic has improved the lives of my patients, and in turn, the people around them.”

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is the Nation’s third largest primary health care profession, surpassed only by practitioners of medicine and dentistry. Chiropractic is a natural, preventative, and non-invasive form of care which is based on the scientific fact that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism.

The purpose of chiropractic is to locate and remove the cause of the problem, not to mask symptoms using drugs or other alternatives. This fundamental approach to wellness mirrors a new and changing attitude toward health care in the United States and around the World. Presence of pain is a signal from your body indicating something is wrong, not an indicator of health. The relief from any pressure or source of discomfort and irritation will allow your body to attain maximum mobility and better performance.

How Does Chiropractic Work?
The body treats the restricted motion and soft tissue damage of a malfunctioning spinal joint like a broken bone. The reduction in range of motion, scar tissue, and irritation to the nervous system can impair the function of other tissues, organs, and systems of your body. The body responds to the dysfunctional spinal joint by depositing calcium on adjoining joint surfaces attempting to “splint” them together. Given enough time, bone spurs, fusion, and an irreversible condition results.

An effective form of care, specific spinal adjustments help return spinal bones to their normal position and movement. Repeated adjustments help retrain the supporting muscles and ligaments. With better joint motion, the normal healing process can begin.
Your First Visit!
Consultation
You will have a one-on-one consultation and complete health history with Dr. Martello to discuss your health related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options. Your first visit is designed for Dr. Ned to learn more about you, your condition, and your expectations to meet your health goals.

Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Martello will perform a complete orthopedic, neurologic, and chiropractic evaluation.

Radiological Studies
Your condition may require us to take x-rays. Only necessary x-rays are taken. For your comfort and convenience, x-rays are taken at our facility. X-rays help us rule out more serious conditions and/or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you.

Report of Findings
Dr. Ned will sit down with you and discuss in detail the results of your consultation, examination, and x-ray findings. This is a great time to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. At this time you may also be referred to another primary care physician if necessary.
Relief Care!
Most patients consult care because they are in pain and the primary goal is relief as soon as possible. After a thorough examination and evaluation Dr. Ned will be able to provide a care plan that is designed to give you the best results in the shortest amount of time. Visits are likely to be frequent during this period of intensive care in order to relieve pain and stabilize the condition.

How you feel is a poor measure of your health. Our society is under the assumption that if there is no pain there is nothing wrong, and therefore, you are healthy. Aside from trauma, pain and other symptoms only appear after disease or other conditions have become advanced. Regardless of whether you are talking about cancer, heart disease, diabetes, cavities, or problems with the spine, pain is usually the last thing to appear. When you begin chiropractic care, pain is usually the first symptom to disappear, even though much of the underlying condition remains. Dr. Martello's job is to locate and remove the cause of your pain and allow your body to heal on its own.

Patients seeking treatment at Martello’s Chiropractic are assured of receiving only the finest quality care through the use of modern chiropractic equipment and technology. Dr. Ned and the staff have a genuine concern for your well-being!
Corrective Care!
Once your condition has stabilized, the objective is to correct the underlying cause of the discomfort. Correcting these problems is a true rehabilitative process and it helps to understand that it takes time to correct these conditions. Similar to exercising, this stage often requires multiple visits per week to make changes in the ligaments, tendons, as well as the musculoskeletal system.

During the corrective phase of your care, the Doctor will be working with you in discussing exercises, stretches, and other activities that you can do to accelerate the restoration of your health. Sticking with your treatment plan will significantly decrease the chance of relapse as your health improves.
Wellness & Preventative Care!
Your health affects everything you do and everyone you know. It is your most valuable possession so it makes sense to invest in it.

Just like any health improving program, it is always up to you to decide the level of care you desire. However, just like continuing an exercise program or eating well, it is necessary to maintain your progress with regular chiropractic checkups designed specifically for wellness and preventative care.

Unlike conventional medicine, which focuses on attempting to treat disease once it occurs, Martello Chiropractic emphasizes improving your health in an effort to reduce the risk of pain and illness in the first place. Most people would rather be healthy and avoid illness, if they could. This is one of the main reasons for the big surge in the popularity of Dr. Ned's wellness program.
Chiropractic Education!
Dr. Martello and today’s Doctors of Chiropractic are well educated. They complete similar undergraduate studies and first year graduate school courses that other types of doctors do. Then they receive another four years of postgraduate college education. Before practicing, they must pass rigorous National Board Examinations and meet stringent licensing requirements.

Chiropractic colleges require a minimum of four academic years of professional resident study, including clinical experience under strict supervision, preceded by a minimum of two years of college work with a curriculum concentrated in the biological and basic sciences, and clinical disciplines. The remaining two years emphasize practical or clinical studies dealing with the Chiropractic sciences and the diagnosis and treatment of disease with approximately half the time spent in college clinics.

Special councils within some chiropractic associations also offer programs leading to clinical specialty certification, called "diplomate" certification, in areas such as orthopedics, neurology, sports injuries, occupational and industrial health, nutrition, diagnostic imaging, thermography, and internal disorders.

To maintain licensure, almost all States require completion of a specified number of hours of continuing education each year. Continuing education programs are offered accredited chiropractic programs and institutions, and chiropractic associations.

Dr. Ned has served since 1996 on the State Board of Examiners Peer Review Committee. As a member of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners, he helps administrate the exam boards held in Atlanta twice a year. His educational outreach on chiropractic healing has included a recent half hour program on local television.
