Mestizo is a Spanish word meaning a mix or blend; it perfectly describes Chef Jim Urdiales himself and his unique creation Mestizo, a distinctive Louisiana Mexican restaurant. Jim’s father Carlos is 100 % Mexican and his Mother is a blond haired, blue eyed 100% French Women, this is Mestizo. Jim’s passion for the culinary arts developed when he was very young working in his Dad’s very successful Mexican Restaurant, it was a family affair where the entire family participated. He and his brother Carlos Jr. started working with their father when they were both just kids. They have been around restaurants their entire lives. Chef Jim learned all about cooking from both his parents, here is where the seed was planted, and the influence that inspired Chef Jim to create something that is totally original, unique and like nothing you else you have ever experienced. |

Mestizo is a fun place where you can enjoy fabulous margaritas or any other kind of mixed drink your heart desires because they have it all. Whatever you want you got it. They also have some really nice bar food, they call it tapas which means small plates, they may be small plates but they are filled with big taste, they are wonderful compliments to the unbelievable drinks. The happy hour every day is just that, a great time to relax with your good friends or your special honey and at just five bucks a pop you really can enjoy yourself.

Mestizo is in a class by itself, not true Mexican food , not true Cajun food, but having both French and Mexican influences, flavors, styles and traditions brought together ingeniously by Chef Jim, no one else could have ever put something like this together so brilliantly unless you were born to parents like Chef Jims, and that would still be only the first part of the equation, the second would have to include a burning desire, driving passion, and God given talent and the creativity necessary to put it all together. You most definitely have to be an artist and that is exactly what Chef Jim Urdiales is, a third generation Chef and restaurant owner like his grandfather and father before him, his Brother Carlos Jr. is also a Chef that runs the sister restaurant La Mestiza Bistro located on Airline Highway in Prairieville, that is another story in itself and another one of Chef Jim’s works of art. His Brother Chef Carlos Jr. is the driving force behind the bistro and Jim has the upmost confidence in his brother and allows him to work his own magic. This is another restaurant you really must experience it’s much different than Mestizo’s but has its own genuine character that makes it also a very interesting a truly great place to eat. |

Everything works at Mestizo’s it all comes together so well to give you an unforgettable time that you will want to come back again and again. A very comfortable atmosphere is what you can expect, don’t think Mestizo is going to look like the traditional Mexican restaurant there is no loud Mexican music playing, no sombreros or murals on the walls instead the place is elegantly casual, warm yet modern, cozy, friendly and feels so comfortable you will think you have been there before.
Flavor, flare, fun and style uniquely its own, a delicious marriage between two cultures borrowing only the best from each is what Mestizo is all about. Upon first look you may think the food is familiar, but you will soon learn that the presentation, the spices, meats, seafood and vegetables all of the freshest and highest quality ingredients come together to please your pallet in a very unusual way. One must experience it to understand it, come and enjoy the most fascinating, enjoyable and delicious food you will ever eat. I must warn you that an experience at Mestizo’s will always keep you wanting more which means the food can be highly addictive. |

Whatever the occasion, Mestizo can do any size catering job you might have and believe me they will do in a way that will greatly exceed all your expectations. Why not leave the jambalaya to someone else’s party and have something really special this time that will keep your friends talking for months, remember this is not ordinary food you’re going to get, it is a culinary adventure that you will not soon forget, it’s something they do only at Mestizo and nowhere else. |

If you’re planning any kind of get together or celebration for any amount of guests, a house party, football party or any other kind of party Chef Jim can accommodate you with his Mexican theme party trays which can feed any amount of guests you have, they are very reasonably, but most importantly they are delicious and are definitely worth the cost. Let Chef Jim do the cooking, that’s what he does best and you will have time to truly enjoy your guests. |
