“Everything is great”, says the advocate, “the food and service and overall experience was exceptional.” The Londoner Restaurant is that one of a kind special place that is so totally different and unlike anything in town or in the entire state of Louisiana for that matter. This is the only authentic British Pub & Grill where you can order real London Pub food like Fish & Chips, Shepherd’s Pie, and Bangers & Mash just like they serve in England. If you wanted to try some of this incredible and truly delicious English cuisine you would have to travel to the UK, but not now because here is a terrific opportunity to try something new and exciting. Why not break the same old boring routine and do something different. Give the Cajun, Chinese, Italian and Mexican restaurants the night off and take the family to The Londoner for a real adventure in English dining. They have something for everyone; the entire family can experience the Londoner together and remember this is a genuine true to life English Restaurant, Pub and Grill.

The atmosphere is awesome, it’s friendly, relaxing and laid back, you will feel as comfortable as you would in an old friend’s home, and the big leather couches, chairs, booths and wooden tables are reminiscent of the traditional pubs in London. The dark woods, wall colors and long antique bar are an original sight to see, it’s almost like a room in a museum. The exposed wooden ceiling beams and huge chandelier lend to the overall authenticity of the entire restaurant’s theme while the rock & roll photos and street scenes of London remind you of where you are.

A traditional UK public house (PUBS) will follow a standard theme whereby a large bar serves two areas, the public bar and the lounge bar. These areas are usually segregate from each other by the use of a pair of doors. Originally the public bar was a space for manual workers and laborers, predominantly male; women were often not allowed to enter the public bar. The lounge bar was decorated in a more refined fashion with the leather couches and overstuffed chairs and would be the place a family would gather in the evening or a couple would spend time courting.

There can be no doubt that the public house has been the cornerstone of UK social culture for over two and a half centuries. No other type of establishment has had such a drastic effect upon the day to day lives of the populace. Now we can have a taste of what the British having been enjoying for centuries, right here in Baton Rouge.

The Londoner offers three distinct areas to dine & drink. Keeping with tradition they have the areas downstairs. For larger parties they have a huge upstairs that can accommodate about a 100 people with its own bar, and lastly they have a grand deck area in front if you prefer to eat & drink outside.

The Londoner also has a pool table, dart boards and a replica of knight’s armor in one corner, all the colors, photos and overall decor come together magically to create a wonderful authentic English theme. The very friendly staff will make you more than welcome and you won’t want to leave even after you have enjoyed some of the finest English food and beverage.
The History of Pubs in the UK!
Alcohol has been part of British culture for hundreds of years. Pubs (or public houses) began to appear alongside the Roman road network as it spread across the country, although back then they were all known as Taverns.

When the Romans left Britain the Taverns remained, and by the fourteenth century they resembled the Pubs and Inns we know today, with individual names and accommodation facilities. The emergence of Pubs in Britain was helped in large part by monasteries and abbeys who brewed their own beer to sell to travelers.

Pubs predominantly sold beer and ale right up to the eighteenth century when the famous ‘Gin Craze’ overwhelmed the country. During this time it was common for poorer people to buy rags soaked in gin to suck on!
From Great Britain with Love!
From Great Britain with love, the traditional English Fish & Chips are the real thing because they will not alter the original English recipe that has been the standard for hundreds of years. We like to Americanize most of the ethnic cuisine making it more to the American taste but the Londoner won’t do it they want you to experience the authentic flavor of true English food, Fish & Chips are very popular in Britain as popular as pizza is here but it is quickly becoming a Baton Rouge favorite.

When you order the Fish and Chips you’re going to get an enormous portion of the most delicious Cod Fish, seasoned perfectly, bear battered and fried to perfection and served with homemade house English style cut fries. If you’re not a big fan of Fish than try the Chicken & Chips, Steak & Chips, or the traditional Bangers & Chips which are costume made British sausage served with mouthwatering red onion gravy on the side, this is a real treat and I will bet you never ate anything so delicious. The smells and flavors of traditional British cuisine are well worth experiencing. The British experience just isn't the same if you miss out on this marvelous tradition- authentic British food!
