Why Are Eye Exams Important?
Regardless of your age or physical health, it’s important to have regular eye exams.
Sadly, less than 50% of Americans get eye exams more frequently than every two years despite the fact that most adults consider vision their most important sense. One in five people are at risk for vision loss, and many of the problems could have been addressed through preventive care.
Annual eye exams not only help correct vision problems; comprehensive eye exams can also reveal the warning signs of more serious undiagnosed health problems such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Your Williamson eye doctor will also check your eye coordination and muscle control, as well as your eyes' ability to change focus. All of these are important factors in how your eyes see. No matter what the age, eye exams are important to our productivity and health.
During a complete eye exam, your eye doctor will not only determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, but will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.
The good news is that eye exams don’t hurt, and they typically take less than an hour to complete. The benefits, though, can last a lifetime. |

Who Should Get Their Eyes Examined?
Eye examinations are an important part of health maintenance for everyone. Adults should have their eyes tested to keep their prescriptions current and to check for early signs of eye disease. For children, eye exams can play an important role in normal development.
Vision is closely linked to the learning process. Children who have trouble seeing or interpreting what they see will often have trouble with their schoolwork. Many times, children will not complain of vision problems simply because they don't know what "normal" vision looks like. If your child performs poorly at school or exhibits a reading or learning problem, be sure to schedule an eye examination to rule out an underlying visual cause. |
- About 80% of learning in a child’s first 12 years comes through the eyes.
- 12.1 million school-age children in the United States have some form of vision problem.
- The American Optometric Association recommends that every child have a professional eye exam shortly after birth, by six months of age and again just prior to entering school. (American Optometric Association)
- Children usually become nearsighted (myopic) between the ages of 8 and 12. (The Eye Digest)

Lasik Eye Surgery!
All Williamson Eye Centers doctors will thoroughly explain the procedures and the risks that you will be facing. Your initial eye health is also considered before making the final decision. The purpose of eyeglasses and contact lenses is to compensate for the weaknesses of the eyes and to allow for vision that is as clear as can be. Lasik is a form of refractive eye surgery that is geared towards improving the eye's ability to focus and not just focus, but also focus well on any object. When it comes to Lasik surgery, a laser is used to remove part of the tissue of the cornea and then it is reshaped in order to improve its ability to focus. A slight slit is made allow access, but most patients experience very little discomfort and can start to notice better vision within 24 hours. One of the main considerations for whether Lasik procedure can work for you is the overall health of your eyes. Diseases of the eye other eye health problems can rule you out as a potential candidate at this time. When you come home after the surgery you will want to take it easy. You may have blurry vision for the first several hours to the first day out of surgery. Resting will help your eyes heal faster. Fluids and a high nutrient diet can shorten healing time and improve your results. Avoid lifting heavy objects and try to take a couple days off from work. You won’t be uncomfortable, but you will need to be careful the first week or so after the surgery. You don’t have to sit home and do nothing all day, but you want to make sure that you don’t do anything strenuous. Lasik eye surgery has offered many people freedom from glasses and contact lenses. Overall, the surgery costs less than the accumulative need for eye appointments and eyeglass or contact prescription adjustments. Lasik goes to the source and solves visual struggles at the core. |
